Enquiry Form

The Executors have commissioned John Gwinnell to write a biographical note covering PAT's life and work. John was a Choral Exhibitioner at Caius in 1970-73 and 1978-79 and worked for Peter as Precentor's Clerk, copying music and cataloguing and filing papers, for several undergraduate vacations. Having recently taken early retirement from the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate he has plenty of time available for Tranchell-related activities.

A major source of information is the substantial archive of Peter's writings held by the Cambridge University Library (see below), but following standard archival practice much of the material relating to living people (or, more strictly, people not known to be dead) is closed until 2071.

John Gwinnell is already receiving substantial assistance from people who knew Peter, in the form of photographs, copies of letters, anecdotes and reminiscences. He would very much welcome further offers of material - please get in touch by post or through the Enquiry Form.
The work is still at an early stage and the publication date is not known. It is hoped that a selection of recordings of Peter's works will be made available, possibly included as a CD in the published biography. The Executors would be very interested to hear from anyone who has, or knows the whereabouts of, any relevant recording.

Cambridge University Library received by bequest in 1994 all Peter's musical compositions, personal papers and correspondence, and sound recordings. The musical items have been catalogued and are available on the University Library's Online Catalogue; the comprehensive catalogue of personal papers has been completed but is not available on line - it must be consulted in the Manuscripts Reading Room,
